So here's the thing – I've been running BiteNet IT for a while now, and I keep having the same conversations. Not that I'm complaining! But when you've explained why someone's printer isn't working for the hundredth time (spoiler: it's usually not plugged in properly), you start thinking there might be a better way.
That's where this blog comes in.
What to Expect
I'm not going to pretend this will be the most exciting corner of the internet. You won't find cat videos here (unless they're somehow relevant to IT support, which... probably not). What you will find is straightforward advice about technology, written by someone who actually has to deal with this stuff day-to-day.
Think of it as the IT support you can read at 2am when something's gone wrong and you're frantically googling for answers. Or better yet, read it before things go wrong and maybe – just maybe – avoid some headaches.
The Plan
I'll be covering all sorts of topics:
Security tips – because ransomware doesn't care if you're busy
Software recommendations – the stuff I actually use and recommend to clients
Common problems solved – those issues that crop up again and again
Industry news – when it actually matters to you (most of it doesn't)
Local insights – specific to businesses in Paisley and Glasgow
I might throw in the occasional rant about printers. They deserve it.
Why Listen to Me?
Fair question. I've spent years getting my hands dirty with IT problems – from sorting out a solicitor's email nightmare to helping a dental practice migrate to the cloud without losing patient records. I've dealt with everything from "my mouse isn't working" (batteries, always check the batteries) to complex network setups.
I'm not some corporate tech giant. I'm local, I actually answer my phone, and I genuinely enjoy solving problems. Even the printer ones. Sometimes.
A Quick Promise
I'll keep the jargon to a minimum. When I do use technical terms, I'll explain them properly. No patronising, no assuming you know things you might not, and definitely no "just reboot it" without explaining why that actually helps.
Also, I'll try to keep posts relatively short. We're all busy. If you need the ten-minute deep dive, I'll provide it. If you just want the two-minute answer, that'll be there too.
Get Involved
Got a question? Email me at support@bitenet.org.uk. If it's something lots of people struggle with, I'll turn it into a blog post. Your problem might help someone else – and you get a free answer. Win-win.
If there's a topic you'd like me to cover, let me know. This blog is meant to be useful, so if it's not covering what you actually need help with, I want to know.
Right, Let's Do This
That's enough intro. Next post will be something actually useful – probably about cybersecurity, because it's December and the scammers are out in force pretending to be delivery companies.
Thanks for reading, and welcome aboard.
Jack
P.S. – Yes, I know the irony of starting a tech blog while constantly telling clients to keep their passwords off Post-it notes. I promise this is different. Probably.
